Robert has 25 years’ litigation and advisory experience in his fields of practice.
He is available, as independent counsel, in evidential and appellate proceedings within New Zealand and international law jurisdictions (incl. arbitration).
Robert is regularly briefed to prepare strategies for achieving client objectives. Once goals have been identified, academic rigor and creative thinking are applied to accomplish the outcomes sought.
He identifies as a barrister academic, in the style of public international law advocates. Having completed a Doctor of Law at Ghent University in Belgium, he is familiar with common and civil law approaches to legal thinking. This versatility in approach enables him to provide counsel across a variety of legal jurisdictions.
Robert was drawn to advocacy for its intellectual challenge and the opportunities it provides to facilitate access to justice. A successful commercial practice has allowed him to continue to dedicate time to public interest litigation, law reform, and legal education.
Away from Chambers, he maintains a work-life balance by surfing his home break at Piha. Located on Auckland’s west coast, the Southern Ocean swell calls for etiquette and respect.
